What is fundamental analysis?
A fundamental analysis is a method of determining a stock or instrument’s real or “fair” market value.
A fundamental analysis would typically look at three aspects, which are: the state of the economy, the strength of the stock’s specific industry and the company’s financial performance such as revenue, earnings, future growth, return on equity, profit margins.
If the stock’s price is lower than market value, the recommendation would be to buy. If the stock’s price is higher than market value, the recommendation might be to not buy, or sell, if you are holding the stock.
Something to take note of is the assumption by fundamental analysts that eventually the stock’s price would reflect its intrinsic value. However, it begs the question: “When?”
