NED — Nedbank Group Ltd.

One of South Africa’s four large banks, offering retail, business and corporate banking across Africa.

Potential LONG · Entry: R281.74 (current price) · Stop R267.61 · Target R310 · Reward/Risk ratio 2:1

The setup: Nedbank has pulled back from the August high near R307 and is now sitting on its rising 200-day moving average, which lines up with the ascending trendline that has held since late 2025. Price has bounced off that confluence and the latest daily candle closed higher. The MACD is below zero but the lines are flattening and curling up, which points to selling momentum fading. A close back below the trendline and the 200- simple day average would invalidate the setup, which is why the stop sits below it at R267.61.

SNT — Santam Ltd.

South Africa’s largest short-term (general) insurer.

Speculative SHORT · Entry: R484.59 · Stop R509.30 · Target R427.79 · Reward/Risk ratio 2.3:1

The setup: Santam jumped roughly 20% in a single session on 5 October and has since stalled just under the upper Bollinger Band, making small-bodied candles with an upper wick on the first day. The RSI is near 78, well into overbought territory and still pushing higher. This is a counter-trend mean-reversion idea: the target at R427.79 sits back at the base of the spike, near the Bollinger mid-line. A strong momentum stock can stay overbought for longer than expected, so treat this as speculative and respect the stop.

Consumer Services

WHL — Woolworths Holdings Ltd.

South African fashion, beauty, home and food products retailer.

Potential LONG · Entry: R39.19 · Stop R37 · Target R43.24 · Reward/Risk ratio 1.9:1

The setup: Woolworths has completed a double bottom, with two lows near R35.80 and a neckline at R38.85. The second low was made with a higher RSI reading than the first, a bullish divergence that flagged fading downside momentum. Price has now broken the neckline and closed above the upper Bollinger Band, with the RSI back above 50. A daily close back below the neckline would put the breakout in doubt.

Health Care

BDX — Becton, Dickinson and Company

Global medical technology company making devices, diagnostics and drug-delivery systems.

Potential LONG · Entry: $187.52 · Stop $180.20 · Target $200 · Reward/Risk ratio 1.7:1

The setup: Becton Dickinson has formed a double bottom with both lows near $175.50 and a neckline at $186.58. Price closed 2.05% higher on the 12th of October, above the neckline and pressing against the upper Bollinger Band after the bands had been squeezing in from the lows. The MACD lines have crossed up near the zero line and the histogram has turned positive, which confirms momentum is shifting. A daily close below the neckline would cast doubt on the breakout.

KMPR — Kemper Corporation

Speciality insurer focused on non-standard personal auto, life and health cover.

Potential LONG · Entry: $27.68 (current price, above the wedge resistance) · Stop $26  · Target $31.55 · Reward/Risk ratio 2.3:1

The setup: Kemper has broken out of a falling wedge that formed over the past three months, with the price closing above the upper trendline on a 2.71% gain. The MACD had a bullish cross below zero, the histogram has been rising for several sessions and both lines are heading back toward the zero line. The stop at $26 sits back inside the wedge, so a close there would mean the breakout has failed.

Industrials

SWBI — Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc.

American manufacturer of firearms and related accessories.

Speculative SHORT · Entry: $14.20 · Stop $14.88 · Target $12.45 · Reward/Risk ratio 2.6:1

The setup: Smith & Wesson broke down out of a rising wedge on 9 October. The 12 October bounce is a retest of the broken support and the Bollinger Band mid-line from above. The MACD has rolled over from its peak and the histogram has faded to almost nothing, which shows the uptrend losing momentum. This is a retest entry, so treat it as speculative until price rejects the level; a close back inside the wedge above $14.88 invalidates the idea.
